Homesick

I’m listening to the Triple J Hottest 100 at work from number 100 down to 1. I am homesick.

I’ve just had Vegemite on toast for lunch. I bought a slab of Foster’s for everyone at work (admittedly I won’t drink any of it… OK, maybe one for a laugh… and to prevent me from crying). I’ve looked at pictures of Don Burke (I actually said Hoo-roo once too), Ayers Rock, Kangaroos, Steve Irwin, John Howard (still the person I hate most in this world) and even a picture of Scott & Charlene tieing the knot.

All I can say is: Thank Bloody Christ I got my tickets to Australia in the post today. Thank Bloody Christ.

White post-Christmas

It started snowing in London early this morning, before 4am some time to be slightly more accurate. I know this because a few of the uninitiated Aussies i’m staying with were running around in excitement and taking photos at that time. And they woke me up, bastards. Not heavy snow yet, but its enough for the street cleaners to have to start spreading the grit salt to stop everyone from slipping over - unfortunately I wore my least grippy shoes and was too early for the grit salt going to work this morning and thus did quite a few of the ’slip over but regain composure just before you hit the ground and then look around embarrisingly for witnesses’ manouevers.

It’s really beautiful near where i’m living though, all of the huge barren tree branches are now covered in a coat of snow and I ran into a few snow fights between all the primary school kids - i resisted the temptation to get involved (OK i might have thrown a couple of bombs).

Here’s some shots from work:

I do not work in a jail

We won’t be having an outside lunch today

In other exciting work-related news, my office roomie Julian and I have been busy redecorating our office. Ok, we’ve done a lot more planning than actual implementation but let me throw some ideas at you to make you envious: Single wall painted in blackboard paint, astro-turf carpet, bean bags, jungle scene painted on another wall, sub-woofer, picnic rug and finally garden gnomes. That is all.

All of our office workmate’s have been putting their height and age up on our wall (I feel old and short)

Whats new pussycat

I have put lots of photos on my Flickr account for you to have a look at!

I had a birthday and I got three cakes - Orange, Tiramasu and a Wedding cake (Thanks Sarah). Out tonight to Madame Jo Jo’s in SOHO for some Northern Soul, Jazz, Funk and assorted other music genres from resident Keb Darge and ex-Portishead DJ Andy Smith.

I have been drinking a lot of strawberry and banana smoothies.

I am changing the design of the site slowly. Bear with.

That is all.

(PS. See you soon)

Campbell’s Birthday

Holidays happy

Enjoyed a respite from work over the festive period. Christmas day was a lunch with everyone where i’m staying followed by a dinner at some friends house in Clapham North, near where I used to live. Spent way too much money on drinking and catching cabs (who conveniently charge double the normal prices this time of year which roughly equates to a deposit on a property in Australia). Good day though.

New year’s I went to a cafe in Soho where a friend manages the place. Countdown at a cocktail bar close by and then onto a nearby house party. Fairly early and cheap night much to my relief in the morning. Apparently the fireworks on the Thames were great - they had fireworks forming faces and stuff in mid-air - but I missed it all.

Apart from that been doing a lot of sleeping, eating, movie-watching and even a light spot of touristing through London.

Starting to cement my plans for the next month. Heading to Tokyo in February for a week and hopefully catching up with my mate Josh from Melbourne who is teaching English to schoolkids. Then heading to Melbourne in mid-Feb. Off to Brazil for a month in mid-March and then back to London for a couple of months before resuming the travel trail through Europe. Go captain planet.
