Mr Scruff

Went to Mr Scruff on Saturday at the Forum in Kentish Town. Can’t believe I’ve only just found out about this bloke. Scruff is a Mancunian on the Ninja Tunes label who plays a minimum 5 hour set - insane! We arrived at about 11pm thinking he’d just be starting but he was halfway through.

The music is a nice mix of funk/reggae/hiphop/electronic. Danced until about 4am. Hence the request for cricket scores at 5am Mum and Dad! They had some really cool video displays - when a big beat was coming the screens flashed red and said “Warning” and then “Big baseline alert”. There’s also all of these cartoon character popping up on screen. Quality.

Gomez

Caught Gomez at the Hammersmith Apollo last night. I was really buggered from a big week at work, but these guys were really good. I didn’t know a lot of the music, but the ones I knew were brilliant sing-along tunes and the rest was really nice too. They have a really original sound.

Enjoy some more pirated photos (these are actually from the gig, thank you Flickr):

Wolfmother

In the tradition of someone without a camera, below is a visual recap of my night at Wolfmother stolen off some poor schmo’s online collection. I think its a great concept.

The photos are also neccessary. I kind’ve went too hard too early, began accidentaly spilling my beer over everyones shoes, moshing uncontrollably and the best news is I basically don’t remember any of the show. Go me. By all accounts they were great.

End result - I need to go see them again.

The entrance to Brixton Academy

One of the lead-up acts: Maccabees or Forward Russia?

Where’s the Wally? I am in this photo somewhere. Suspiciously familiar green t-shirt in the top right, but I think I was wearing black. Goth phase, i’ll get over it don’t worry.

Wolfmother. I don’t remember much, but I remember rocking out. What an act.
